With the northern hemisphere ski season in full swing, we sent our roving reporter Sarah Benton off to Europe to find out which resorts are the winners and which are the losers in the snow-fall stakes. ‘The sky is falling; I saw it with my eyes…’ It’s not just Chicken Little that saw the sky falling; snow has fallen all over Europe - even in LONDON! - creating some awesome riding conditions both on and off-piste. After the dump that blessed many resorts in December, a cold spell moved in over the Alps and made it its home for a good few weeks, bring temperatures of minus 20 in some places, but finally these arctic temperatures seem to have gone back to where they came from, meaning that the conditions were right for that magical white stuff to start falling. And, wow, it’s been falling alright. Some resorts in France and Italy reported up to a metre of snow last weekend.

Frances Booth reports from Ischgl at the opening of the 2008/9 season Since May the resort had been asleep. Bars were empty, lifts were still and everyone got used to a bit of peace and quiet. The odd cowbell was perhaps heard on the mountain. The occasional tourist happened upon the town. And then all of a sudden, ready or not, Ischgl came to life. Hopefully the locals had braced themselves.
